Small Block Super Teams Meet to Discuss 2009

Owners and drivers of several small block supermodified teams met on November 8th at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego, to brainstorm about future plans for the NORA small block series. Several teams were represented, and many had positive ideas and opinions about which direction to head for the 2009 season.

nora.jpgThe meeting was led by NORA president Steve Reynolds, who is seeking more assistance in steering the organization. Candidates for Vice President, treasurer, secretary, PR, and other assistants are being solicited by Reynolds. Some very qualified candidates expressed interest in helping with the NORA organization, which is already a great start. Anyone else who would be willing to offer assistance should contact Steve Reynolds at steve@inkspotinfo.com, or 315-532-2693.

The first discussion on the table was about what NORA’s goals should be for the upcoming season. Teams were asked if they would prefer to have NORA leadership attempt to schedule a traveling series of races, or to just concentrate on making the September Race of Champions a bigger paying event. Opinions were mixed, as some competitors were content to stay home and race at Oswego only, while others preferred the idea of a two or three race series on the road. Some pavement speedways will be contacted by NORA leadership to gauge their interest level about whether or not the small block supers would or could be added to their schedule. Bob Hoefer also suggested that NORA could possibly be included as a combination event with supermodified races at another speedway.

Some of the other speedways that may be contacted include Spencer, Adirondack, Lancaster, Shangri-La, Holland, and other paved speedways within two or three hours of travel from Oswego. Purses were also a topic of discussion, as a suggestion was made that would have all competitors receiving an equal amount of money, no matter where they finish.

On the subject of cost-cutting for the division, a tire rule was discussed once again. But, as in the past, nobody has come up with an efficient way to police a rule that would force competitors to purchase less tires. For years many owners have wanted to find a way to cut down the tire bill, but nobody has found a solution yet. Crate motors, series sponsorship, tech, fundraising, and other subjects were discussed during this very productive meeting….
